This 8 1/2 inch diameter platter was turned from Bastao wood. The word 'bastao' means walking stick in Portuguese. You can see why when you look at the original log. It looks like a loose gathering of walking sticks somehow joined together in the middle. The variety of grain patterns, textures and colors (why is the bark contour turned inward?) made this a rewarding project. Finish is Watco oil buffed on the Beall system.
