Big Leaf Maple Burl

Big Leaf Maple Burl

This one was a whole lot of fun to turn. It's a Big Leaf Maple Burl that measured approximately 18" and is 2.5" thick. Turned using an inside grip using bowl gouges and scrapers. Bowl is friction polished and the outer surface are treated with 5 coats BLO. Lots of elements in this one including quiltiing, spalting, birdseye, and inclusions. Comments and critiques are more than welcomed.

Great turning treatment Leo. An impressive piece.

But the two different finishes detract from the effect IMHO - the BLO pops the grain nicely and makes the friction polished section look a little anemic.
