Small Box - PNG Rosewood and Gaboon Ebony.
The rosewood blank for this piece was sent to me by one of my Aussie friends, thank you Jeff.
As you can see it has neat looking golden and darker stripes. It turns like a dream and holds detail well.
The inlay is a dished piece of ebony that sits proud of the flat area in the lid...shadows are cast through the piercings for a nice effect.
The finial, at it's thinnest point, is 1.5mm in diameter... a portion of the detail gouge's tip was actually touching my finger that was supporting the wood as it was cutting.
