Willow Snake Basket 1

I've been attempting to learn this basket illusion thing. This is my 3rd piece that I've finished. Each one I learn a little more but still a long ways to go. I decided to try something a little different than the geometric patterned style that is common in Native American baskets. This is a rattlesnake pattern, my own version inspired from looking at several of these done by Kumeyaay basket makers of far southern California and Baja Mexico. 12.5", Willow, danish oil.
Good work, Curtis. You're progressing rapidly. If I can offer a couple suggestions, I think that doing some shading and using a lighter touch on the herringbone patten would help give it a more realistic appearance. Also make the beading more closely spaced. For displaying my baskets, I like the acrylic post easels from Michael's a lot better than the wire plate holders.

@Bill Boehme Thanks Bill. I was hoping you would chime in with some advice. That braided pattern around the rim is very difficult for me and is going to take some more practice. I'll make a wooden wall easel for this when I get a chance. I'm running out of shelf space. Thanks again.
