Well, I suppose it could be, but I didn't color it at all. When I got the burl I thought the guy said redwood, but now I think he meant red wood, which it certainly is. And it's a hardwood. But I really don't know the species.
I bought it from a guy in California, so I assume it is native to that region. I've never seen that kind off thing here in PA. So far, the color has not faded at all (maybe I should sell it fast before it does, lol)
