Monterey Pine Vessel

This is my 4rth turning and it was fun. A bit thicker than I wanted it, but fun to hollow. 6 inches tall, 11 wide. About 1/4 inch thick. It sat on the lathe for about 4 weeks while I traveled for work and had deformed enough that I didn't feel I could hollow it any more without bad things happening. Sad how work gets in the way of play, ain't it?

I am eager for some hard critiques of my pieces if folks are of a mind to be critical. I travel alot and so I am not in touch with local turners and artists much. You folks are probably my main source of inspiration, and critique! Any thoughts are really appreciated. Don't mince words please!
Dave,
I looked at your work, and I have to say that "hard" critique would be difficult for me. Your work looks really good! I confess, I am partial to the elegance and simplicity of most Polynesian forms. For the most part, the only way that I could like your turnings more, would be to hold them. This piece is my second favorite, but still, I see the classic Island form whispering inside the shapes.
In looking at all of your posted work, I see that you have the classic forms down cold. The other thing that impresses me is your selection and orientation skills. You are either the luckiest turner I have seen OR you have the knack for seeing the best orientation to turn out the nicest piece. That spider thing is my favorite, and THAT shape and orientation is almost beyond compare - excellent outcome.
