Moon Rite
Inspired by the animate, other-than-human spirits that inhabit our sensuous world.

Maple, poplar. Turned, carved, burn textured, acrylic paint.

10" x 10" x 4"
Very creative, Heather. Does it open?
This piece does not, but I did have a long, hard think about whether or not I wanted to have it open. I’ve made similar pieces that still vaguely cling to a notion of functionality, but I decided to let that go with this piece, maybe to keep some mystery about it. Not sure if that was the right choice or not, but there ya go. I definitely have plans to make more forms in the same family that open up to reveal something beautiful/intriguing inside.

Heather, I just made an assumption that this was made in two pieces because of the carved texture in that "V" section. Would be a little more difficult to get in there to make those lines.
