NE Cherry Crotch Bowl

This natural edge Cherry crotch bowl is about 16” x 14” x 5 ½”. Because of the large bark inclusion I used a 6” faceplate, turned slow, checked it frequently, and stayed out of “the line of fire”. It would be best to find a better piece of wood if you are unsure it can be safely turned. The faceplate was left on while it dried and a couple of romex staples were installed across the bark inclusion to hold it together while drying. I used several pewa to reinforce it and used epoxy and sawdust to fill voids. It has mostly a rounded base but there is a small flat spot on the bottom.
This is a beautiful bowl James! Well worth all the effort. The wavey repetitive grain surrounding the center inclusion reminds me of a spine, and this is nicely visually reinforced on the flip side with the generous use ff the pewa. Love it!
