"OATS" Sp Maple Cherry Box

This is one of my "OATS" segmented blanks, turned to a box form.

Woods: Spalted Maple and Cherry, with thicker Mahogany veneer and maple veneer in between.
Diameter: 5 3/8 inches
Height: 7 1/8 inches
Finish: Water based Polyurethane

Why didn't you put a non-traditional finial on it and enter it in the contest?

Do you happen to have a picture of one of your OATS blanks before you start turning it? Hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like the segments are different sizes. Is that the case.

I like the veneer between the segments on this one.

Well Ed,
Honestly, this is about the most "traditional" form I have ever done... I'm not sure it would accept some a-traditional topper.
The segments are all the same size on this piece, although I have made several that use alternating larger and smaller triangles. I will post a picture of the top view of an "OATS" blank drawing, maybe that will help you to see the design idea...
