Poplar hollow form

Poplar hollow form

Continuing my challenge to practice hollow forms (at least one per week and a different shape each time). Wall thickness is nice and thin on this one. I’m not loving the spherical shape, and I definitely prefer a rim treatment of some kind to this plain opening. Great practice, though. My technique is improving and I’m learning what designs I prefer.
Well, I’m loving the spherical shape. Nice indeed

You've got a great attitude and the self-assessment skills to do great work. Making poplar look like nice walnut is a great trick, too. Kudos to you!

Thanks, Dean! I've never taken the time to work through the process like this. I've always tended to devote my time to what I'm already good at. This has been rewarding. The wood is rainbow poplar, so I just got lucky with the color--it's all natural.
