Pussy Willow platter

10 1/2" x 2" shallow bowl or platter. As I worked on this it kept warping, it doesn't really show in this photo but it's kind of a potato chip. The design is highly influenced by a piece done by Maria Martinez and her son Popovi Da in her later life. I guess you could say it's a pottery illusion. Pyro and Sanquine Faber Castelle Pitt pen.
This also reminds me of Roberto Ferrer's shield work. I love the stylized dragon. Does that come from a particular culture? It's easy enough to make out, but vague enough at distance to simply enhance the design. very nice, and a real dedication to that pryo pen!

Maria Martinez was from San Ildefonso Pueblo in New Mexico so I guess that would be the link to a particular culture. As a potter her own work in clay and her influence on my woodturning look pretty different but there's no mistaking that I've copied many of her ideas. https://www.mariamartinezpottery.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html
