Rice bowl with inlaid wood patterns Picture 1

Cherry rice bowl inlaid with maple and walnut patterns. Inlays are through entire thickness of bowl. Used a Shaper origin router to create inlays
This form has a kinetic feel to it. Did you freehand the inlays with the router?
the inlay patterns were drawn in a 2D CAD program (turbocad). However the intent was to create shapes that looked organic and "flowing". I did it on the computer so I could transfer them to my Shaper Origin router. If you arent familar with this tool, its a handheld router with a CNC computer assist. It can accomplish the accuracy needed to make the glue joints, which I could never do freehand. if you want to see how it works google it to get videos which can explain how it functions as its not a standard style CNC tool.
