You can see the ebony color in the branch coming out of the bottom. This is a side grain bowl, not an end grain bowl. The pith of the piece is the top of the bowl.


You see a huge crack in the side? It goes right through. There are probably eight major cracks in this thing.

Notice the walnut like color and grain pattern on this side too. I guarantee that this is Persimmon though. It's hard as heck! Even the spalted places were hard to sand smooth!
