Altering the natural color of light woods without losing authentic color appeal...

… One problem for us turners is that the wood must first be completely dry, so only moderate thickness is possible, unless twice turned and heat treated by ourselves.
This does have wondering how thick of a board can be roasted in a home oven. I suspect anything thicker than 3 to 4 inches might take too long time for the center to get hot enough to brown. Been thinking about roasting a twice turned maple bowl after I have one that I‘m willing to risk. For now this technique is practical for flatter pieces like platters, plates and hand mirrors or small items like pens, calls and segmented turning pieces. Though I‘m interested to see what other turners might come up with.
