complete lathe is showing voltage when plugged in regardless of main power switch. Direct short somewhere. I have taken off the control box and do not see anything obvious. any ideals would be appreciated.
‘Doesn’t matter…the machine frame still should not be hot.Be sure the hot wire has not been swapped for the neutral.
Explain that a little further please. I’ve heard of a dead short, but not direct short. With a dead short you couldn’t measure voltage at the machine because the breaker would have tripped. You are saying you would get a shock if you touch the lathe while it is plugged in? Or are you saying the switch has failed and the circuit is complete and the lathe runs when you plug it in? That lathe was known for circuit board component failures with people who used it for turning bowls. (Too much load and heat in the controller) Generation 1 machines were know for main switch failures (even lots of shipping damaged switchers), and both generations were know for fouled switches from saw dust.complete lathe is showing voltage when plugged in regardless of main power switch.
