complete lathe is showing voltage when plugged in regardless of main power switch. Direct short somewhere. I have taken off the control box and do not see anything obvious. any ideals would be appreciated.
Is there a wiring junction box on the motor, in/around where the power cord enters the motor? Could be as simple as a wire nut falling off of a factory connection. I've had that happen.
Check wire insulation for even the slightest damage- fraying or cracks. Give them a few wraps of good electrical tape.
Electrical gremlins, they'll drive you nuts, for sure.
