I need a couple of faceplates for making sanding and honing jigs.

I found some inexpensive ones on EBay; under $30 from “BMTools”. Does anyone have experience with them?

I've purchased at least one BMWOOD six inch steel faceplate on Amazon and found it to work fine. My guess is many faceplates in this price range are likely made in the same factory under different names. I've mounted 80 to 100 pound blanks and never had a problem. Where quality matters most in my experience is the screws used for securing the faceplate.

Use good steel screws. I found a box of Kreg pocket hole screws; work fine. Drywall screws are brittle and can snap off. Make sure the thread size and pitch will fit your lathe.
