I played around with using a ground hole saw for 1” balls that are hard to turn with a bowl gouge.Interesting technique. I wonder how easy it is to control the tool? I could imagine the possibility of some big catches.
What speed are you running your lathe at?I have just made and tried the tool for a round bottom bowl and it did a good job of making the hemisphere perfect. The tool i used was made from a 2" hole saw. I was lucky to have lots of old used hole saws in my junk pile.
