Hello, I am a new member to the forum and this is my first post. My name is Lewis Elliott and I would like to introduce myself to the forum members. I am a retired Aerospace Engineer who worked in the industry for about 45 years. I retired 10 years ago at my full retirement age. I have been married for 56 years and my wife and I have two adult children; we reside in New Jersey. One of my hobbies is woodworking: I am a hybrid woodworker blending hand tools and power tools and now integrating turning into the mix. Although I have dabbled in woodworking for many years I consider myself a beginner who is interested in expanding my skill set. I have a full size lathe and have a little experience with carbide turning tools; however my desire is the become familiar with the safety and use of traditional turning tools. I also like to write simple "C" programs that can assist me at the tool or workbench; some of which I can execute on my apple iWatch. As time goes on, I will have many questions for the forum members. To get started in turning I have acquired a full size lathe, as mentioned above, the Oneway Stronghold chuck system, bowl and spindle gouges, a grinder and Oneway Wolverine sharpening jig equipment for sharpening my turning tools. I will shortly be setting up my sharpening station and my lathe. I also have purchased some of the "Beall Tools" equipment. My current turning goal is to make bowls and vessels for gifts and spindle items to supplement my woodworking projects.
