Mink oil as a wood finish

I have heared of people using animal fat as a finish. I might try bacon grease on a salad bowl, but not mink oil. It smells too bad.

I wouldn't use it. There are too many proper products out there to use to gamble on something like this.

Animal fats will not polymerize/cure and harden, even with heat like how you season a cast iron skillet. This means it can go rancid. Now, my grandma used to cook her fried chicken in half lard and half bacon grease, and it was the best chicken I have ever had. Her skillet never smelled funky though. I do watch Cowboy Kent Rollins on You Tube, and he said to not use bacon fat on a skillet because it can go rancid. I use grape seed oil.
