MIXOL TINT PROBLEM

Twice I have used Mixol red tint in System Three epoxy with the resultant color becoming blackberry purple upon curing. It starts bright red but in a few minutes during mixing it begins to change color, both in the wood (bowl) and in mixing cup. Anybody know what is going on and how to get red out of Mixol red tint and epoxy?

You don’t mention which product from Mixol. This is what Google says:
Red Mixol can change color in resin
due to a chemical reaction, improper mixing, or the use of low-quality materials, often resulting in a yellow or orange tint. To prevent this, thoroughly mix the tint, use a high-quality red pigment designed for resin, like Mixol Fast Red 27, and consider adding a drop of black to counteract potential yellowing over time.

Thank you Richard.for your reply. I am using Mixol red tint #10. Purchased recently in a multi color kit from Woodcraft. As I said it turns a blackberry purple not any shade of yellow or orange. The brown and black work just fine. Weird

I'm guessing you don't want to buy tinting from System Three, but they do sell their own products to tint their epoxy. I would assume that the tints have been tested on their products. I've not tried tinting their epoxy, but I've thought that, if I did, I would probably go with their recommendations.

I've also found System Three's Support excellent. I had never used epoxy for anything and was a novice without much knowledge about epoxy. Via email and, by phone once, I got all my questions answered. They suggested which products would work best, but also indicated ways to use what I already had in my shop (also System Three) instead of their recommended. So, if you need support on at least their product, I felt they were very responsive.
