I’ve had a PM 2014 for about 5 years now. The tail stock has the round clamp plate on the bottom that takes a lot of force to keep the tail stock from moving in use. Saw the Oneway bowl steady hanging on the wall with the rectangular clamp plate. Ordered one from Highland Woodworking. They come threaded for a 1/2-13 bolt so luckily I have a set of 1/2” shank drills up to 1”. Centered it up in the drill press and drilled it out to 3/4”. Works great now. I don’t know if other Powermatic lathes use the round clamp plate but easy enough to change if they do. Those who might not be able to drill one out, can probably find a local shop for a few bucks. You just have to make sure you order the plate for the correct size between the rails.

I think all PM lathes have the round plate at least my 3520B does. It does sometime need a small tap to stop the sliding but no real complaints about it. I just check it every now and then when turning.
My Jet and PM3520b have round clamp plates, machined with a step that keeps the plate centered between the ways.
None have ever slipped with normal hand pressure, no tapping.
Underneath the bed where the clamp plate bears is a casting surface, not particularly smooth if that makes a difference.
Is the nut tightened too much preventing the clamping handle from ending in the optimum position?

My 3520b had about a foot section of yellow paint on the underside clamping surface of the bed about midpoint. It was a real pain removing the paint. Clamping much improved in that section after paint removal.
We just acquired a new PM2014 for the Kaatskill Woodturners Association shop. First thing I did was turn a longer handle for the tailstock lock, 9.5" , Drill 3/4" hole.Fits great and works like a charm.
