The Turning of the week is - Padauk yo-yo & vertical display - by Ed Davidson.

Ed is the master of yo-yos. I’m fascinated by Ed’s yo-yos and stands and this one is elegant.
Ed’s extraordinary skills in design, combining materials, turning, finishing, engraving, and style are evident in this piece.

Made from African Padauk with Malachite stone embellishment. The display measures 2.75" wide at the base and 6" tall. The yo-yo measures 2.25" x 1.40" and weights 44 grams...perfectly balanced one piece design (no glue holding sides and axle together). The yo-yo's logo pogs are made from rainbow scratch-paper, with laser engraved art, covered with a thin glass-like coating of epoxy resin and color shifting glitter.

Great choice! I've never made a yo yo, but I've heard it is quite difficult to get the balance and weight just right for a good spinning experience. Nice job Ed!

I had pour granson in my workshop last week while he was on school hoiliday. He is YoYo mad so he wanted to have a go at turning one.
I set the lathe up and taught him how to hold the tools etc nothing like starting on something so difficulr. Anyway after four days he had his first real bit of turning and a YoYo .
It worked down and half way up as the balance was not quite right but at least he was happy I just hope that he will carry on as he was intrigued with the way the wood turned.
