In addition to forum members, there are also many people who view these want ads who won't be able to respond because you do not have either an email address or a phone number so that they can contact you. That is why the want ad rules state that you must provide either an email address or a phone number. It's not a hard and fast kind of rule, more like a suggestion to help reach more potential buyers.

Since I live in Hawaii, I have never seen a burl for sale. What a nice piece of timber. Would like to hear from some of our mainland turners, is this a good price for this? Thinking of what I could make, visualizing the final product, I couldn't pay that much... Not even a Koa burl...

Emiliano if I bought that piece of wood and got use of every bit of that wood and sold the pieces around here I would still be at least $1500 in the hole. I think that the TV show of people burl hunting has folks thinking that burls are made of gold.

I was wondering if I was missing something. LOL. Thanks Bill!

A wood burl is worth what someone is willing to pay and what they are able to turn from the burl. You never really know what is in the burl until you start opening it up. This is very much like buying a penny stock, 1 out of 10 might be a winner and they other ones might lose on your investment. For the average wood turner it is safer to purchase a burl wood blank that has been cut into a usable piece exposing the character of the burl.
