Not quite the same Valley, but Arroyo Hardwoods in Pasadena has a decent selection of woods, although they seem a bit pricy. (Not too bad for LA prices, though.)
Allthough I've never been there, I found Integrity Wood Products in Canoga Park listed in Woodworker West Magazine. Their Phone is 818-704-7490 and their website is www.integritywoodproducts.com

These, and others I got elsewhere, will give me something to do in my spare time, provided the grandkids give me any! I need to look for pen blanks, bowl blanks, etc, since the airplane is limited. Of course, as one respondent told me, if I don't take a suitcase, I can take back 100 pounds of wood. Hmmmm.

While you're out here, you might also check with some of the big parks in the area. In some cities, when they cut a tree down, they dump the logs next to the community garden, free and available.
