Holtzapffel No. 2245, Lindow Rose Engine, And M.A.D.E. Lathe work.
There is absolutely no sanding involved. The patterns must be cut with extremely sharp carbide on very dense wood. The cutting action leaves the surface highly polished. Finished with a bit of oil and in some cases buffed with carnuba wax

No sanding, eh? That reason alone is justification enough to get involved with ornamental turning! Kidding. Wonderful boxes, and the betel nut finial is a nice touch!
