Ball Tealight holders

Theese 3 ball tealight holders are made from Beech (light), African wenge (black) and Jarra (brown).
They measure from 100 mm to 120mm in diameter, and 70 mm 80 mm in hight. Each tealight holder consist 85 segments. they are sanded to 400 grit and treated with boiled linseed oil.
Very nice.

A couple questions:

The central piece appears to have slightly different wood in two (or three or four) of the banded segments. Almost looks like mahogany. Or is it merely an illusion of lighting?

For the circular elements of the feature rings, do you use conical interfaces for precision? It would seem to be a nightmare if cylindrical.

Somebody else can count the segments this time. (ha ha)

Thanks for showing.
