Birdhouse Ornament

A hanging birdhouse ornament. Roof done in Cherry, pyrographed and dyed. The house is a chicken egg shell that was painted.
what a delicate piece, how did you get such a clean hole in the shell??
might be a good idea not to drop this one :)

Peter, Thank you. The hole in the shell was cut using a dental drill w/ carbide bur. You are right, the real egg shell ornaments don't bounce well at all.

I've always been a fan of your egg ornaments. The coloring on this one is fantastic. How'd you do it? Also, where do you get your birds?

Hal, Thank you. The coloring is an undercoating of black with multiple different colors "drybrushed" on top. After all is done and dry, shot with rattle can lacquer (semigloss). Roof and perch are attached after all is completed. The birds are a paper concoction that I used to buy at Michaels. Last time I went to buy some, they couldn't be found and may not be being carried any longer.
