Cherry Bowl

Cherry bowl, 7"W x 2.5"H, turned very thin, and finished with Mineral Oil for daily use. A small bead foot cannot be seen in this photo. Would appreciate all comments - I would like to improve!
Kurt,
I like the shape and low sheen finish. My only comment was going to be about a foot but as you have stated it is there and can't be seen. It would look frumpy (how do you like that word) without a foot.

Hi Kurt - The picture looks like you have a knife edge rim (very thin). That can be a dramatric effect in a decorativve piece, but I found that very thin edges don't hold up well in utility pieces. They can even be a little dangerous to the user. I've managed to nick myself more than once handling very sharp rimmed bowls.

Try searching the forum for "mineral oil". There has been a lot of discussion and links concerning the wisdom of mineral as food safe finish.

Thanks for your comments!

I appreciate the input - this was my first attempt at a seriously thin piece, which after shaping and sanding was just a bit thinner than I shot for. I actually cracked the edge twice during finishing (thanks for CA). Great tip on mineral oil - I am going to check it out.
