Coral Petal Vase

Coral Petal Vase

Petals of myrtle burl dyed to a coral, orange, and red blend. Bill and Diane wanted a vase with this color combination which I think turned out to be very nice. Blackwood stem with some sap wood. 5X5 Received an interesting comment from an artist, he said that an artist would prefer the stem to be all black but a woodturner likes the contrasting sapwood.
Beautiful work, especially for how thin the petals are. I, too, like the look of the contrasting sapwood, and have used it on finials. However, in this case there is nothing else, design-wise, to reference that contrast to. It doesn't seriously detract, though; still a beautiful piece.

This is a beautiful piece and the sapwood has very nice contrast in the stem. Good work Bill. I think that Bill and Diane will be very proud to get this piece.

Hi Bill,

Super piece, but I too thought the sapwood detracted from the overall look. Still very very attractive though.

My wife, not a turner or an artist, made the same comment when I showed her the photo and asked what she thought.
