Ripples View 2

I almost missed out on this piece of highly figured Silver Maple. While routing through a pile of logs last month, I did not see anything interesting on the first pass. Instead of leaving empty handed I decided to take a closer look. Then near the bottom of the pile I saw the blacken end of a maple log . So I decided to pull it out and cut it open, jackpot! Unfortunately the firewood cutters got the tree, but they left the stump, which is the best part. So I was able to get 4 or 5 good pieces.

Finish: Dyed blue with a gloss oil finish.

Dims: 9 3/4 H x 8 Dia.

Hi Andy, Very nice form and color choice. I have a piece turned but not yet finished that is similar (box elder with that kind of figure). Did you sand back the dye to get the figure to show?

I grew up in Sussex county.

Thanks Mark, yes I carefully sand back the dye with 800 grit paper to get the figure to show and then added 6 coats of oil finish and buffed it up.
