Rusty Teapot

Before leaving for St Paul l had just finished making a teapot from Pear resembling cast iron. l took it outside to spray and forgot to take it in before we left. This is what it looked like when we got back, can you believe how rusty it got in such a short time.

Mike, certainly looks like cast iron to me. Are you sure it's wood?

Can you explain what was done or point me to a discussion thread if I overlooked the explanation on the forum?
