Salt Cedar Burl Box

Salt Cedar Burl Box

This tiny burl was harvested from the side of a badly charred Salt Cedar log that burned in the Hondo, NM valley in early 2008. It was like opening up a geode to find a fantastic center. Surprisingly, when I turned it in 2009 it was still very wet and had to be set aside until late 2010 to be finished. I do love this wood. Not so much the finial, which I wish I'd done differently.

The box measures 4"x2.5" and the Pecan finial that rests atop the curly Mango lid is 3.5" tall.
Charles-

I beleive that a dark piiece for the finial would have worked better on this piece. Along with more of a daintier design on the finial.
