Shell Fragment Series #4
Rick Crawford

Shell Fragment Series #4

10H x 8.5W x 2D, maple, turned, carved, textured. Base is poplar, paint, brass rod. This is an abstract conceptualization of a sea scallop shell fragment found at Matanzas Inlet, just south of St. Augustine, Fl. This stand is more organic in nature, and based on an ocean wave curling at the shoreline. I have oriented the piece in-line with the stand, as opposed to being at right-angles as in my previous pieces.

As always, C&Cs most welcome.
Thanks Dick! I've got two more that are in the works, if I ever get back to them. Right now I'm getting ready for November outdoor shows.

Smiles,
Rick

Hi Peter, and thanks! There is so much inspiration out there in Mother Nature's domain, and the shells are just part of it.

Smiles,
Rick

Many thanks to all for your comments!

Dale, I've always enjoyed the fraud of creating something out of wood that looks like something definitely not of wood. I get a kick out of it when visitors to my booth at shows turn to me and say "that's wood?".

Ronald, this series has all sorts of possibilities, only begun to scratch the surface, so to speak. Good luck on Artprize, as you have some very stiff competition. Paul Balliker lives just south of where I find my best shell fragments, and his work is incredible.

Smiles,
Rick

Rick, another excellent piece. Love the texture that you use to achieve realisim. Great concept, great sculpture.

John

Thanks John! I've already got an idea how to make the next one even more integral and organic...stay tuned.

Smiles,
Rick
