8 x 5 Maple / Mahogany

One in a series of a new idea I'm experimenting with.

I started out cutting staves and adding the protruding elements but I wanted the body to be more uniform. The biggest challenges have been how to resolve the base and keeping the grain direction correct.

Thanks for looking.
Comments and Critiques are welcome.
I'll echo Don and add this is one of those, "how exactly did he do that" series.

Let me guess at this. You turned the outside then cut it in pieces installed the staves and turned the inside. How did you protect the fins while turning?

Thanks for the comments.

Bill, you have the idea. As far as protecting the fins -- very carefully.

Jake, "how did he do that" is exactly what I was after. Thanks.

By the Way John
I like your work......the wife looked at your piece and immediately said now you will have to do one of those for me!!
