Spalted Maple Burl Bowl - 481

This was the second piece of old Spalted Red Maple Burl given me by a friend before Christmas. This one did not have any live critters in it. It is 11.75" dia x 6" tall. Finished with several coats of sanding sealer and gloss lacquer. Cut back with steel wool and rubbed out to a satin finish.
Great balanced form and figure Ed. The balance on this is well done. The finish fits the spalted wood.I'm glad you took a break from the hollow forms to turn these.

Ed,

Nice form, with a good use of the natural edge, nice finish, beautiful wood. All in all a great job.

Thank you George, Angelo and Dan for your comments. I enjoy turning NE pieces and especially like wood that has problems. This wood had many problems.
