Wormy Mesquite

Wormy Mesquite

Size 7"H x 5.5" W. The wood came from the firpit of a coworker. It was loaded with small worms which only got bigger since it took a couple of months for me turn it. He got a smaller piece from the same log. I lost count at 15 worms which ended up eating #2 pencil size tunnels throughout the piece. The majority of the tunnels got turned off since they eat the sapwood first then burrow in. I was really surprised this piece stayed together. I was using a captured hollowing rig for the first time.
i really like your wormy mesquite, and it is very stable, how are you applying your red and black dyes?? on the platters, where are you taking classes???

Both dyes were applied with tiny pieces of paper towel dipped in the dye. I wore gloves, too. The red dye is layered from yellow to red with orange and a tiny bit of purple. You always start from light to dark and sand in between with a progressively higher grit. The class was a canyonstudios.org with Jimmy Clewes. Wonderful guy and time.
