  Thank you Irfan. I'm not worried about the handles cracking I cut them in the face grain side and white oak is pretty strong. and fairly flexible when thin. I've made spring salad tongs from white oak and haven't had any trouble with them cracking yet. I was having trouble with the white oak...

  I suppose it's best defined as I use a woodburner with a sharp skew tip to carve with. The burning cuts into the wood and provides the details. I use a Mastercarver (micromotor) to remove wood from the surface.
