Painted Poplar Twist

Okay, it's not really painted, but this poplar had such interesting grain colors that it almost looks painted. Normally poplar is one of the less exciting woods. I did 'fudge' a little bit by combining four smaller blocks of this poplar together in one large block to accentuate the colored sections. Height is 7 inches and the twist was done with a 3-point multi-axis approach. The top edges were carved and shaped to enhance the organic contours. Finish is Watco oil buffed on the Beall system.
