the Phoenix

This is the first piece of my open spiral series, entitled "the Phoenix" ("the Fury", shown in my gallery is the second of the series). The Phoenix was my entry into a local woodturning competition titled "It Grows on Trees which featured works made from trees taken by the Emerald Ash Borer and other locally salvaged timber. As you may know, the Emerald Ash Borer has wiped out most all the Ash trees in the Midwest US. This piece embodies art arising from the devastation of the Ashes.
Comments are welcome, thanks!
Artistically speaking, this may be the most moving piece of wood turning I've ever seen. Thanks for the masterful inspiration.

very nice
