Up, Down. 5162 & 5163

Up, Down. 5162 & 5163

Two ash vases approx. 10 inches tall. Each one started with a left and a right spiral side by side. Then the spaces between were filled in either form the top down or bottom up with partial spirals, creating the chevrons either pointing up or down. Both up and down patterns can be put on the same vase. (one on front and the other on the back.) Therefore you can get four distinctive patterns on the same vase. ie spiral right, up, spiral left and down patterns flow into each other. Grooves all done with a router on a sled while the piece was mounted on the lathe. The one on the right reminds me of Klingon brow ridges, so I'm tempted to name it Worf.
