Good bench grinder for sharpening tools

I started shying away from Woodcraft power tools when I found out that they don't accept returns of power tools.

If you are referring to a Ricon grinder there are some reviews that say that shafts are bent. I looked at this grinder and once I found out that I could not return it if there was a problem I went elsewhere.

That's interesting. I haven't checked recently, but the local Woodcraft says that they'll take returns for 30 days for any reason or no reason. I returned a Woodcraft brand toolrest many years ago without any hassle.

HOW DO I MAKE A RETURN?
Domestic US Orders - If for any reason you are not satisfied with a product, you may return it anytime within 90 days and we will gladly replace the product, give you credit, or refund your money, whichever you prefer. Woodcraft’s Guarantee does not apply to power tools, which are subject only to manufacturer’s warranties.
 
I've never heard of the no return policy. I know a lot of people who deal with Woodcraft and not one of them has had a problem. I seem to remember some one at one time did return a grinder to get another one. I've heard of a few problems with their grinders but that was quite a while ago. I purchased mine from them and love it. One of my friends was an owner of a woodcraft and his son is running 2 of them now. I will try to remember to call them tomorrow and ask about that policy.

I think that because most Woodcraft retail stores are privately owned that they might have some flexibility in this area.

You might be thinking about THIS OLD THREAD where the overseas manufacturer of Woodcraft branded lathes didn't have their act together. Fortunately, once Woodcraft recognized the significance of the problem they got serious about getting things straight. That was probably why they decided to switch to Rikon. There is another thread from about the same time about Woodcraft's response.
 
For the money, the Rikon is hard to beat. Fit and finish is not as clean as a made in USA Baldor, but no complaints about the one I have other than the base needed work so it would sit flat on plywood after I took the rubber feet off. Any 'defective' tool should go right back to the store. I have never heard of any problems if you take them right back. If you wait a year or so, then probably.
