I think this particular piece, because of the way the curve is interrupted (probably coupled with the distortion of photography) doesn't really show that as well as some of my other pieces.

I think the continuous curve of your form with the gap is perfect - and disagree with Marc's comment.

Which made me wonder about your process. Do you insert the gap slice, and perhaps some veneer for the saw kerfs, before routing the recess for the pewa? IMO- put it in the gallery!

Actually, I cut the pewa recesses first, then cut the gap on the bandsaw (using basically John Beaver's bandsaw jig). The trick is figuring out where the pewa go before I make any cuts. Actually, I sometimes just cut enough pewa first to get the reassembly right - extras might be cut after that initial reassembly, especially if they're in tricky locations.
