Lamp with carved and painted base
John Vaeth

Lamp with carved and painted base

26 1/2" tall maple lamp with custom blue acrylic paint and carved purple "grapes". This started as a tall bud vase but I reshaped it to make a lamp. (Photography Note: the only illumination in this photo is from the bulb itself. I liked the shadow it created)
The lamp is simple elegant. Congratulations on creating such a spectacular piece! Would you please tell me how you created the thin extension from the lovely and wider lower section? Thanks.

Thank you Jeffrey. The lamp is all one piece. I drilled a 1" hole from the base to the neck and the drilled another smaller hole from the neck to the base so that I could thread a wire all the way through. To shape it, it was held on the base end with pin jaws (headstock) and on the neck end (tailstock) with a Oneway full point cone.

Love the proportions and elegant use of negative space!

Good job!
Thank Joe! When you referenced "negative space" I immediately thought "artist" and went to look at all of your posted media. Very beautiful and well executed. Maybe a little Binh Pho influence?
