Maple H/F

This piece of Maple I found on the side of the road(road kill) last winter after a heavy wet snow.It is 8" wide and a total of 13 1/2" tall with a 4 " African Blackwood finial.I use the same wipe-on poly (clear gloss) on the body (6 coats) and just wax on the finial. Then buffed with the beall system.
This is my favorite of these posts Bob. I think the shape at the top through to the delicate finial is well done, the base of the finial continues the curve smoothly without interruption.

Thanks George,I appreciate your comments

Nice finial! what tool do you use for the details? I use dental tools...slow process! beautiful work!

Thanks Thomas,I use a Packard 3/8" detail gouge that I ground the side back so that is very small in the nose of the tool and then ground off some of the bevel on the back and also a very small 1/8" gouge that I did the same thing to that is like a dart.
