Bastao Chalice

Bastao Chalice

This 4-inch tall chalice was turned from Bastao wood, a Brazilian hardwood that looks like a bundle of walking sticks. The natural edge turning highlights the irregular shape, grain patterns and rich red colors of the wood. A mahogany base was added to compensate for the uneven shape. Finish is Watco oil, buffed on the Beall system.
I agree Bill, it is very finicky wood. Almost as bad as Red Cedar, but the Bastao sure has some beautiful color and grain patterns
