Redwood Twist

Redwood Twist

This 5-inch tall vase was turned from a block of Redwood burl. A twist was added on the upper sections and three carved feet were added on the bottom. The beauty of these grain patterns spoke to me and demanded that I highlight them with a twist. Finish is Watco oil, buffed on the Beall system.
Brian......I thought of you the instant I saw this remarkable piece. As do you, I concentrate on certain elements of producing my works repetitively. As you know, most people probably consider this approach a little boring......but, it is necessary for the purpose of fine tuning our individual techniques to the point where the results have an appearance of extreme refinement......which, increases the appeal to those who consider such things to a higher degree than the majority of most casual observers...... these are the distinct connoisseurs of the arts!

Great job here, as usual... :)

Thank you Odie for these kind comments. Repetitive practice of techniques often leads to an increase in skill and expertise, as you well know. The only price to pay is time and the frequency of repetitions. You have to really like a process or technique to pursue it repetitively and create higher levels of expertise. And, as you have proven, only those who actively pursue these repetitive processes can truly appreciate the work of others who are in similarly challenging pursuits.
