What’s on your lathe?

Osage Orange - Tiny lidded box from a small piece of scrap I had roughed out back some 2 years ago.
Finally dried out enough for a box.
I came across a whole truck load of this from someone that was going to throw it in the burn pile.
Who knew this was hidden inside that scrap wood??

This is the start of a white oak pumpkin. Carving done with saburrtooth burrs and hand gouges. Hollowing done with Trent Bosch tools. Currently the wood is pretty wet so hoping to get it finished by the end of October. White Oak is prone to cracking so as you can see I've sprayed with Shellac in spots before filling the cracks with CA glue to keep the glue from soaking into the wood.

Finally finished. Black walnut for the stem with leather lace.

I had two people contact me with bowl pictures from my page. One wanted a walnut with a slightly enclosed rim smaller than the one in the picture and one wanted a maple which had some color and a little spalting. Fortunately I have a lot of first turned bowls on the shelf and was able to find what they wanted and they have already approved them. Walnut is heading to Slidell LA and the maple is staying local when finished. First coat of oil applied today.

Beautiful!

That's one hell of a piece of found wood. Oh, to know the journey that piece took to arrive on your shore.
The story goes in1854 the sailing ship “Dolphin” was enroute from Africa with a stop in Santa Domingo to a furniture manufacturer in Boston with a load of ebony , sank off our shore,Cuttyunk Island, in a bad Notheast Storm. For the last I don’t know how many years, when we get a storm from the southeast pieces would wash onto the beach. Still happens to this day but not so much anymore

Mite of gone a little to thin on the bottom cut
Should in lay another piece of silver maple?
Or contrast with walnut? Gona use as a practice piece for what I was trying to accomplish .
