Nice WIP Odie! Wenge is such an interesting wood, and ranks up there with the stringiest I've worked with. Haven't turned it much though. It always baffles me when someone uses it for a cutting board too, ha! I couldn't imagine many worse choices (no offense to any that has done that )

Working on the last of the walnut that was not milled into timbers. The tree was cut back to just the trunk about 2 years ago and then held up by the pandemic until september 2022 when I drove my truck down to the metro twin cities and picked it up. The turning pictured here is a goblet form that is about 8" diameter X 10" tall. The first pic is ready for the chuck, 2nd ready to start hollowing, 3rd wet sanding the inside done and 4th forming the outside of the cup and the base.

Nothing to spectacular - at least not compared to most of the work here. I am currently making some small plates out of some leftover birdseye maple. Size based on the width of the boards I had left. One finish sanded (no finish yet) and one ready to go. These are for practice after a long absence from round work..

Dust collection update. Canister filter arrived. It was a breeze to install. Bolt on adapter to make a flange. Bolt canister to flange. This product would very likely fit most any brand wall mount system. System works much better now. Improved airflow would be my guess. Picks up screws and chunks of bark....<grins>

Something a little - well who am I kidding? A lot different than the crowd. This is a jig/fixture to fill fishing reels with line. I do offshore fishing, and putting 500 yards of line on a reel is not so fun. The reel on there now is a smaller Penn Senator, in 4/0 size.

The line holder is a neat piece of engineering and is designed to allow consistent tension on the line going on the spool.

Thanks - as for RPM, I wish I could say. Lathe is a 3520a and does not have a tach. I can say that I've got it on the low pulley and run as fast as I felt comfortable for testing. Best guess is that I got up to about half throttle. What I do know is that it is easier than hand cranking. I have 1500 yards of 80lb line coming, and a larger reel that will take half of it. I'll have a much better idea after that. I do know that I need to revise the part the reel sits on so that the diameter is reduced so the reel clamp bolts will fit around it.

Thanks for the information, Kirk. My Vicmarc doesn’t have a tach either. For the most part it’s not a problem, but sometimes it would be nice/safe to know. In any case, your setup is pretty sweet. I used to do a fair amount of freshwater fishing, and although I didn’t have reels anywhere near your capacity, it was always sort of a pain to hand crank on all the line. Made for a decent reason to drink a beer or two, but that’s about it.

Air Filtration addition. I purchased a PM1250 electrostatic air filter during PowerMatic's 10% off sale. I've been looking at air filtration systems for the shop for a few months now. I settled on this one for it's near silent operation and secondly no filters to replace...ever. 754CFM @ 51db on high speed. I can't hear it over the radio. Weigh's in at about #40. Can be used as portable or wall/ceiling mount. Took less than an hour to assemble and install. Said to remove particulates down to 0.1 microns.

Noise and on-going cost of replacement filters were big con's on my list.

The unit has a 1000 hour operation timer that causes the power LED to flash. This is to remind you to vacuum the screen and fins. Hold down power to reset timer. Time will tell how it performs but knowing me as well as I do, I'd be reluctant to power on and use a loud device.

I'm working on my biggest natural edge bowl to date--about 12" across the long side at the rim. I was able to get the walls about 3/16" thin. First coat of finish has been applied. I'll add another coat tomorrow and finish the bottom after that. The wood is maple, taken from a downed tree in the neighborhood.

I was on a budget , the beige one is a flower pot I got from my wife , the black one is a bathroom trashcan , I could not afford the black hole dust collector.

Built a new knock-out bar and added a handle to the headstock swivel tommy bar. The OEM knock-out bar was too short and very light for the intended purpose. The new one is 2" longer and made of 5/16" SS. Walnut, danish oil.

I don't think that lid is bocote. Without seeing it in person, I would guess wenge. Pretty hard, very splintery, and the dark parts are much harder then the lighter parts. Nice box!

Just finishing a large floor vase for the wife! About 21" h x 15" w. Over one thousand segments(1008 to be exact). Made with 36 segments per ring of black walnut, purpleheart, paudak, and maple. Took longer than I'd like to admit but was an enjoyable build.
